The Promised Land
According to Eurostat, in Europe, slightly more than 7% of the population is born outside the European Union. The country with the largest percentage of people born outside the EU is Sweden – over 14%. In Germany it is 10.3%, in France 9.5%. The last country in this ranking is Slovakia with a coefficient of 0.7%, and our country is in penultimate place. In Poland, there are currently over 500 thousand people born outside the European Union, which is about 1.4% of our population.
In turn, the number of foreigners who legally reside and work in Poland, according to ZUS, at the end of June 2021 was 818 thousand, of which 74% were Ukrainian citizens. These immigrants play an important role for our economy, which is starting to lack workers, it is only a pity that in their case we are repeating the risky immigration model invented by the Germans and the French in the 1960s, which consisted of employing guest workers, instead of taking action to permanently settle these people in our country.
The figures for immigrants seeking refuge here due to various types of persecution, or in short, refugees, look different in Poland. In Poland, one or two thousand people apply for refugee status every year. In the first half of this year, 667 Belarusians, 465 Russians, 140 Afghans, 112 Ukrainians and 50 Turks filed refugee applications. The average "recognition" rate of applications is around 40%.
In the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II, in 2015, EU member states received over 1.2 million asylum applications, submitted mainly by citizens of Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Two-thirds of these applications were received by four countries: Germany, Hungary, Sweden and Austria. In response to appeals from Greece and Italy, which were most at risk from the crisis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared that "those who need help must obtain asylum in Europe". The European Commission issued decisions to relocate 160,000 refugees, 10,000 of whom were to go to Poland. Poland, ruled by PiS, refused. Germany accepted the largest number of refugees.
Today, refugees have appeared at our eastern border. Fortunately, this is not as huge a wave as the one that flooded Europe six years ago, although the exact number of refugees is difficult to determine, because the ruling PiS party has introduced a state of emergency in the border areas, not for safety reasons, but only to hide the truth about its own activities by pushing journalists away and to filter information in a controlled manner through Kurski's entrapment.
For PiS, the refugee issue is “political gold,” as Morawiecki nicely put it in leaked emails. Until the last Muslim leaves Belarus, they will sound the alarm, increase the sense of threat and scare, showing what an efficient and effective sheriff and defender of our borders our government is.
They are telling everyone that in this, in their opinion, war, all actions are justified, that the end justifies the means, that the border, our families and women must be defended at all costs, even if that price is the dignity and lives of other people. According to PIS, there is no alternative to their actions.
This is not true. We can and should defend our borders in a Christian and European way. Poles can do it. It is PiS that cannot do it.
The state border should be tight. Not a single person should cross our border illegally. Is it so difficult for the sixth largest country in Europe to stop securing the border from three, maybe four thousand refugees? Why do dozens of immigrants cross the border illegally every day? Because this government, despite its boastful assurances of its strength, organization and readiness, is incompetent, and its arrogance, arrogance and false sense of agency do not allow it to turn to the EU for help.
Refugees cross and will cross our border illegally. And when they succeed, they cannot be returned to Belarus. This is contrary to the Geneva Convention signed by Poland in 1951 and the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. PiS is notoriously violating this law.
The most disgusting and incomprehensible thing is that refugees who camp under our border on the Belarusian side are not given any help. Why is it not possible to defend the border and at the same time provide help to those in need, condemned to hypothermia and hunger by Lukashenka, just because they are on the other side of the border. It is disgusting and inhuman. PiS is disgusting and inhuman.
PiS will defend the borders by building a wall that will not protect us from anything, that will quickly be overgrown with grass and for years to come will be a sad monument to the lack of empathy and lack of respect for others.
PiS keeps repeating ad nauseam that we are being subjected to a hybrid war unleashed by Lukashenko.
Nothing could be further from the truth. This is not a war. Apart from a few thousand frozen Muslims who were promised paradise, no one is planning to breach our border. This is a simple ploy. Lukashenko, or more precisely Putin, want us to become like them. Soulless and inhuman. For now, thanks to PiS, this is what we are becoming, and the border of Western and Christian civilization is starting to move westward.
