My blog

On non-plus and minus plus
I was wrong.

I was convinced that this government would quickly leave, tripping over its own feet, or would be wiped off the face of the earth by a nation that would sooner or later come to its senses.

However, nothing of the sort happened and there is no indication that it will happen before the end of PiS's second term. Kaczyński has somehow managed to maintain the unity of his own camp, although many times over the course of these almost seven years it has hung by a thread, and the polls are once again returning to below forty percent, because people clearly do not want to see the government's frauds, believing that although they steal, at least they share.

It continues to depress, sadden and puzzle me that so many of my compatriots tolerate, accept, support and even praise this government based on manipulation, cynicism, lies and xenophobia, a government devoid of respect, tolerance and trust.

However, I realize that we have no good alternative to this government.

Tusk is not a good alternative. During his seven years in power, he was mainly concerned with cultivating his PR image, and the best thing that can be said about him is that he did not squander EU money and built highways.

Hołownia is also not a good alternative, it is hard to say anything about it, except that you are surrounded by people from nowhere and you don't know what to expect from them.

A good alternative is also not the PSL, which is changing its views like a banner, nor the Left, which is pretending to care for the poorest, nor even the corrupt Kukiz and the false Confederation.

The truth is that our entire political class is worth little, and after 1989, it is impossible to point to any party that would not be focused on building its own and its activists' prosperity and would implement a good plan for Poland and Poles. Over these more than thirty years, Poland has changed so much primarily because of Poles themselves and EU money, and politicians have hindered rather than helped these changes.

Does this mean that our entire political class should be condemned indiscriminately, emigrate, take to the streets in protest, or take offense and stop voting?

Absolutely not.

For bezrybiu and rak ryb, for bezplusiu and minus plus. In other words, the bloody duty of everyone who cares about everything is to go to the elections and choose the lesser evil. I have been voting for the Platform for years, not because they are worth my vote, nor because I think they are a good party. I vote for them with distaste, in the belief that if they win the elections, they will steal less than others and will be less of a nuisance.

Today, we have a party in power that is harming Poland and Poles. No other party in Poland has managed to so divide people, to incite others against each other, to destroy respect for the law and work, to spoil the rule of law, to destroy state institutions, to steal property.

However, removing them from power at the ballot box will not be easy.

The latest Kantar poll gives PIS 32%, KO – 22%, Polka 2050 – 10%, Lewica – 8%, Konfederacja – 7%, PSL – 4%. If the actual elections ended with such a result, PIS together with Konfederacja would obtain a total of 228 seats in the Sejm, i.e. a fragile majority. If KO went to the elections in coalition with Polska 2050, then with the same percentages cast for individual parties, in total KO, Polska 2050 and Lewica obtain 240 votes and can govern independently. And if all the opposition parties without Konfederacja formed a coalition, they would receive even 252 seats.

This clearly shows that removing PiS from power for now depends solely on whether the opposition goes to the elections together or separately.

However, there is no indication that they could or would like to come to an agreement.
